Okay, so

Five Rules of Time Out

1. It is reserved for serious infractions. In my house, time out is generally reserved for hitting. kicking, throwing objects at people, and deliberate destruction of property. If you use time out too often, it loses its effectiveness.
2. It should never be longer than four minutes.
3. It is not a time for lectures.
4. It doesn't matter how or where the child sits/stands/jumps up and down/thrashes around like a dying fish.
5. If it isn't working, stop doing it.

  1. I prefer to have the child sit/stand/jump up and down or thrash like a dying fish in a different room than I am in.

That way, we each get a time out - or at least time away from each other - to cool down.

    Other than that, total agreement.
