Reading SHOULD be the reward! I give books as gifts quite often and try to spread the joy and love of reading with others!

I also love the Thrifty Treasures you shared. You are so right,it does not take a lot to excite a preschooler or kindergartner. Each year for Christmas, I either get my students a book or a notepad with color pen.

Thank you for Sharing Danny!Carie Ramirezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13632137256223240648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7820655223655850123.post-51054860347060830532012-05-20T16:43:36.622-04:002012-05-20T16:43:36.622-04:00I absolutely agree that reading 'is' the r...I absolutely agree that reading 'is' the reward. I use a lot the "Reward Children with and extra Reading Time". I make a big fuss of it. They get soooo excited.
Another thing I do is when I take my students to the library (3 times a week) I encourage them to choose books for me to read in class so I always have this this pile of books on a special place 'waiting to be read'. They love it.Amelia De Mellohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04646236006318685589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7820655223655850123.post-58585973995124401982012-05-20T07:13:45.563-04:002012-05-20T07:13:45.563-04:00I love your statement that "Reading should no...I love your statement that "Reading should not be rewarded; reading should be the reward." We definitely found reading to be the reward in our family. We often gave books as gifts and all loved to read. We didn't think of trying to reward our kids for reading, since we all found so much happiness in reading aloud and reading individually anyway.

Great suggestions for making sure the emphasis is in the right place!
